Career Coaching & Workforce Readiness

 

We are here to provide advice, help, tips, support, assistance, and guidance.

 

Southside Virginia Community College is pleased to offer the services of Adult Career Coaches not only to our students; but also to dislocated, unemployed, and underemployed workers in our services area.  Working hand in hand with our community partner agencies it is our goal to transition our students and/or those adversely impacted into post-secondary training and education programs that will allow them to attain a family sustaining career.  Our Adult Career Coach & Job Placement Coordinators will develop close professional relationships with those seeking their services.  The coaches will assist individuals with any and/or all phases of this process, providing the following services:    

  • College and Career Planning - Schedule a meeting with one of our Adult Career Coaches today to get registered on the Virginia Wizard.  With their assistance you will be able to utilize this website to not only focus on career pathways determined by your interests and skills, but also develop and plan for the post-secondary education and training necessary to successfully reach your goals.

  • Soft Skills Development - Schedule a meeting with one of our Adult Career Coaches today to work with them on addressing and developing the following skills: Resume and Cover Letter writing, Interview training, Professional etiquette and attire discussions.

  • Barrier Identification and Remediation -  Let us work with you to identify the barriers that are preventing you from receiving the education or training you desire.

  • Post Education/Certification Services - Take advantage of the partnerships we have created with local employers that offer on the job training (OJT), internships, and job co-ops.
