Your STEPS TO SUCCESS checklist is below:

Participate in New Student Orientation
The College hosts two or more new student orientations; at least one on each main campus (Alberta and Keysville).  These sessions will help you familiarize yourself with the College and its offerings.


Class Orientation

You may register for classes via Student Information System or you may register with a student services team member. The classes you are registered to take are listed in the Student Information System, which you access through MySVCC.  On the first day of class, be sure to have a printed or online copy of your class schedule handy so you’ll know the date, time, building and room number of your classes. Here are maps of the campuses and diagrams of the buildings. 

Don’t worry if you do not see your credit classes listed in Blackboard before the first day of class! Your class schedule in the VCCS Student Information System is considered your official list of credit classes for which you registered. Access your schedule through MySVCC, and you’ll see all the classes for which you registered. Credit classes show up in Blackboard either on the first day of the class or within 48 hours after registering.

Set your browser to Firefox or Google Chrome to use Blackboard. SVCC strongly recommends that you use Firefox or Google Chrome as your web browser rather than Internet Explorer.



Student Portal

Activate your SVCC email and portal. Very important! You’ll receive official SVCC announcements about financial aid and other updates through your SVCC email. Set up your email and portal through MySVCC.  

Check your Student Center for important updates regarding your enrollment, finance, and financial aid.  For assistance with your student center please contact the helpdesk at 434-736-2059.

Deadlines

Check Payment Deadlines

Remain aware of deadlines: Adding, Dropping, Withdrawing, Scholarships, Financial Aid, Payments.

Remain aware of special scheduling: Exams, Holiday/Closings, Activities



Books

Buy or rent your books. Visit the SVCC Bookstore Website to learn more.  

To buy online click Shop Online Here link, click the link for books and then click the drop-down for textbooks and course materials. Enter the specific course information and find the link to the ISBN number for the text. (You can find the ISBN numbers on your course syllabi, found under each course in Blackboard)  

To shop on campus, you will need a printed schedule to take to the bookstore (the book information is on your schedule). The SVCC Bookstore, which is operated by Follett, is located on each main campus in the Main Academic Building. Hours and contact info are posted on the Bookstore’s Website.   Bookstore contact numbers are:  Alberta, 434-949-1023 Keysville, 434-736-2045



Student ID

Get a student photo ID. This is not a requirement but highly suggested.  Having an SVCC student photo ID may enable you to find discounts around town. Get your photo ID from  the locations below:

  • Alberta -  Main Building (CLC - Room B10)
  • Keysville - LRC Building (sign in with Student Services )
  • Off-Site Locations - (Visit the main office for information to obtain your ID)


Parking

Get a free parking decal and observe parking signs.  Decals are available from the admissions office.
