Kids Camp - Lego Robotics

The Student Services Team is excited to offer our incoming students orientation on each Main campus, which will take place on Wednesday, July 13th  on the Christanna Campus and Friday, July 15th on the John H. Daniel Campus!

Registration for both sessions will begin at 9:30 AM and our program will start at 10:00 AM. 

The New Student Orientation Experience is a meaningful tool that will help prepare our students as they begin their college journey with us.

Enjoy working outdoors? Looking for a career that’s challenging and rewarding? Help ensure reliable electricity for yourcommunity by taking the first step to become a power line worker. Electric utility line workers install, remove, maintainand repair both low– and high-voltage distribution lines and associated equipment and facilities. Using curriculum from the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research), the Power Line Worker Program being offered through Southside Virginia Community College covers the fundamental aspects of power line work, including the most crucial element of all: safety. During this 12-week program you’ll receive both classroom and hands-on training in:

SAFETY | CLIMBING TECHNIQUES | ELECTRICAL THEORY | AERIAL FRAMING
RIGGING | OPERATING UTILITY SERVICE EQUIPMENT | CDL

UPCOMING SCHEDULE:

Students should be aware that this is a physically demanding training program requiring heavy lifting, climbing and outdoor activities in all weather conditions. High school diploma or GED required.

Regional Veterans & Community Health and Benefits Summit

The Brunswick Health Ambassadors (BHA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will host a Regional Veterans & Community Health and Benefits Summit on July 9, 2016 at Southside Virginia Community College, Workforce Development Center in Alberta, Virginia.  The Summit will commence at 8:30 a.m. beginning with registration followed by opening ceremonies at 10:00 a.m.

The purpose of the Regional Veterans & Community Health and Benefits Summit is to provide Veterans and the community with available resources.   The Summit will have vendors who can offer vital information as well as actual sign up for various benefits available to our Veterans.  In order to sign up for a benefit, Veterans MUST furnish their DD214’s.  Please be certain to bring this document along on the 9th.  In addition to Veteran services, there will be community focused vendors as well.  There are planned activities for the children as well as entertainment by various groups for your enjoyment as you take in the array of vendors.

There is no cost to the public to attend this event and a free floating lunch will be provided for attendees from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.   To obtain additional information call Brenda Willis Bonner at 434-848-9050 or email bernieb@shentel.net.
