Carie Dalton Watters, a 1998 Nottoway High School graduate, first attended Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) as a dual-enrollment student.  Once she graduated high school, she continued her studies at SVCC.

At first, Carie was unsure of what career path she wanted to pursue and took a variety of SVCC courses.  She was then hired by the South Hill Police Department and graduated from the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy.  She continued her studies with SVCC, earning her Associate of Applied Science in Administration of Justice.

Carie returned to SVCC to receive her Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies/ Administration of Justice, allowing her to transfer into Old Dominion University’s Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program.  She was not only the first in her family to attend college; she also has completed three degrees!

Carie’s grandparents were an integral part of her childhood. She remembers telling her grandmother that one day she was going to be on the other side of the desk, teaching at SVCC.  Even though her grandmother is not here to see it, in addition to being a police officer, Carie is a proud and enthusiastic adjunct teacher in SVCC's Criminal Justice program.
