Connie Bailey graduated from Southside Virginia Community College in June of 1981 with an Associate in Applied Science. During her second year at SVCC, she worked as a student assistant in the English Department with Susan Slayton and Lillie Mumford. The flexibility of the work schedule allowed her the time to complete her duties either before or after classes. According to Connie, she thoroughly enjoyed her last year at SVCC since she was able to work at the college with two great teachers whom she admired and it was a very rewarding experience working one on one with the students. She was also inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the National Honor Society for two-year colleges.
Upon graduating from SVCC, Bailey was hired by Colonial Farm Credit, where she continues her career today as a loan officer in the South Hill office. Even after graduating from SVCC, she has returned to the college on several occasions to take refresher classes (computer and real estate) to better enhance her job skills.
She was born and raised in Brunswick County and continues to live in Alberta with her husband and daughter. Her daughter, a sophomore in high school, is currently taking dual-enrollment classes sponsored by the college.
“We are very fortunate to have SVCC in our community. SVCC continues to be a great asset to our Southside Virginia community.”
