Alumni Spotlight - Dorothy Long Carwile

Dorothy Long Carwile

A Charlotte County native, Dottie graduated from Randolph-Henry High School prior to attending Southside Virginia Community College.

She chose SVCC because she wanted to get her basic classes done in a small classroom setting with plans to transfer to Virginia Tech. She adds, “I also wanted to ease into college since I get homesick easy.” While at SVCC, Dottie was an active participant in the Honors Program.

Upon graduating from SVCC with her Associate’s Degree in General Studies with a specialization in Agribusiness, she transferred to Virginia Tech. After graduating in 2018, she joined her family business, Long’s Farm Supply in Brookneal, VA. Dottie is married to Lewis Carwile, a graduate of the SVCC Power Line Worker Training School.

Dottie's advice to students, “Always chase your dreams no matter how crazy they are.”
