Kelley Barnes LaPrade

Kelley Barnes LaPrade grew up in Kenbridge and South Hill and graduated from Park View High School. She attended Southside Virginia Community College to take general studies and information technology classes that would transfer to Old Dominion University.

After transferring to Old Dominion, Kelley completed her Bachelor of Science in Occupational and Technical studies with a concentration in Information Technology. Continuing her education, she earned a Master of Science in Occupational and Technical Education with a concentration in Community College Teaching-Information Technology. She also earned a Graduate Certificate in Digital Forensics through American Public University.

Looking back on her time as an SVCC student, Kelley says, “I loved the feel of attending a small college where you have a close relationship with your faculty and peers. I attended a larger school my first semester of my freshman year and decided the community college was a much better fit for me.”

Currently, Kelley is an Associate Professor of Information Technology at Southside Virginia Community College. She plans to continue her career as a professor at SVCC working with students because she says, “Seeing them succeed is my passion.”
