Rikki Coon always knew she wanted to be a mechanic. As a young child, she was fascinated with her truck driving father’s big trucks and would watch his every move trying to figure out what made them work. She also was influenced by her grandfather and brother, both mechanics. Even her mother had once wanted to do similar work and fully supported Rikki’s career path.
Born and raised in Amelia, Virginia, Rikki was home-schooled until she reached her high school years, when she attended and graduated from Amelia County High School. As a dual-enrollment student, she earned her Career Studies Certificate in Diesel Mechanics from Southside Virginia Community College a few months before graduating from high school.
Rikki, being one of relatively few females in the field, admits she has faced some challenges, but felt prepared for them by the training she received at SVCC.
She is currently employed by Automotive Excellence in Blackstone, VA., where her favorite things to work on are 6.0 Ford diesels.
