Emergency Response Simulation

An Emergency Response Simulaton was held in Chase City recently for SVCC Paramdeic students and Associate Degree Nursing Students. The realisitic simulated car wreck – car (driver is a standardized patient playing the role) vs. 5 year old (manikin) in the parking lot.

Paramedic students were to triage, treat per protocol on scene, and transport to ER.

VMDAEC and SVCC Partnership Powers Continuing Education Opportunities

A partnership between the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) and Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is making it possible for those training as apprentice linemen to climb to the top of their careers through advanced education.  The VMDAEC represents 15 co-ops in the Mid-Atlantic region and trains over 100 apprentices per year.   

First Lady Applauds SVCC Graduates

“You made it.  Give yourselves a round of applause,” said Virginia First Lady Pamela Northam as a greeting to the class of 2018 of Southside Virginia Community College at Commencement on May 12 at the John H. Daniel Campus in Keysville.  Under blue skies and what the Mrs. Northam called ‘Texas Heat’, SVCC celebrated 946 credit graduates along with 238 students receiving workforce credentials.

PTK Induction

The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is an organization of scholars that exists to recognize and encourage scholarship among students in community and junior colleges. New inductees to this society from Southside Virginia Community College are :

Philanthropy Honored

The Laughing Gull Foundation has received the 13th Annual Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy. The progressive family foundation proud of its’ commitment to justice was nominated for the award by Southside Virginia Community College.

Diesel Tech Graduates

The Diesel Technology program of Southside Virginia Community College held a graduation ceremony on May 3, 2018 to recognize students who completed the two semester program and received a Career Studies Certificate for that accomplishment.

Education Secretary Tours LCAKC

The Virginia Secretary of Education, Atif Qarni, toured our Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center recently. The Secretary spoke of his strong support for career and technical education to a group of business and industry leaders, county and school board members, and our faculty and students.

He spent a lot of time interacting with DE students and even raced project cars with them.
