Henna Body Artist Visits the John H. Daniel Campus

SVCC hosted a Henna Body Artist on Tuesday September 22nd in the Student Lounge of the John H. Daniel Campus. Over 100 students were able to participate in the ancient art form of henna tattoos. Students picked what design they wanted and Deepika skillfully placed the artwork on arms, hands, and even legs!  Most tattoos had a special meaning that Deepika explained as she sculptured the painless tattoos. While students waited they watched traditional Henna parties on T.V. behind the artist station.

An SVCC student receives a henna tattoo. An SVCC staff member receives a henna tattoo.

At first the Henna tattoo looks like puffy paint with glitter. Then as the tattoo dries the top layer of paint falls off to reveal a beautiful brown version of Deepkia’s skillful artistry. The true origin of Henna body art is widespread among many cultures. Originally, it was used to celebrate weddings and special occasions. Here at SVCC students were able to share in the culture of this ancient art form.
