Dennis Barker, a Charlotte County native and Randolph-Henry High School graduate, earned an Associate of Applied Science in Administration of Justice from Southside Virginia Community College.

It protects infants, children, medically vulnerable individuals, and the elderly from heat-related illnesses. It enables workers to be more productive.
There were times in life when Hilton Bennett could have used an eraser. But since he could not erase some bad choices in his life, he made the best of a bad situation and turned his future around. Incarcerated in Lunenburg Correctional Center in Victoria, Virginia, Bennett said that the trials he had in life made him rethink his next steps.

The Welding Skills Certification program begins July 16, 2018 at the Southside Virginia Education Center in Emporia. Offered by Southside Virginia Community College Workforce Development, the classes will meet Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through October 3, 2018.

The Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has reaffirmed accreditation for Southside Virginia Community College. The SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among the diverse institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America and other international sites approved by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degrees.
Since graduating from Southside Virginia Community College with an Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies, Maygan Clary returned to SVCC to earn Career Studies Certificates in Basic and Intermediate Emergency Medical Services.
The Transportation Manager at the Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia, Jon "JP" DiGiacomo is a Southside Virginia Community College Truck Driving Training graduate. He also teaches behind the wheel and classroom drivers' education to teens and adults. Prior to his career at the Collegiate School, JP did local trucking and dispatching after his time at SVCC.

Nikki Kallam grew up in Lawrenceville, Virginia and graduated high school from Brunswick Academy. She earned a Certificate in Practical Nursing and an Associates of Arts and Sciences in Business Administration from Southside Virginia Community College.
A home-schooled Kenbridge, Virginia native, Elizabeth Dunn earned an Associate of Arts and Sciences in General Studies from Southside Virginia Community College. She completed the degree with a 4.0 grade point average.
A Park View High School graduate, Brentley Morris grew up in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He earned an Associate of Arts and Sciences in Business Administration from Southside Virginia Community College.
Our Diesel Tech program recently added a Caterpillar 214B Rubber Tire Excavator at our Occupational/Technical Center in Blackstone. Carter Cat donated and delivered it to SVCC.
Southside Virginia C.C. in partnership with John Tyler C.C. and the Sussex County Community Coalition participated in a job fair in Stoney Creek, VA in mid June.
The National Center for Education Statistics reports that the number of bachelor degrees conferred in the U.S. has increased by 125% since the early 1970s. A large part of the reason is the encouragement high school students receive from parents and guidance counselors to pursue a college education.
Family and friends have established the Lealon M. Vassar Scholarship at Southside Virginia Community College in memory of and to recognize his contributions to the community, service to others, leadership skills, work ethic, and honesty.
New student orientation is scheduled for July 12th (Daniel Campus) and July 20th (Christanna) in the Workforce Development Centers.
