SVCC Alumni Spotlight: Lewis Jones

Alumni Spotlight

Lewis JonesLewis Jones, a Randolph Henry High School graduate, grew up in Red Oak, VA on a local tobacco farm. After high school, he worked for a year at Cardinal Homes in Wylliesburg, VA. Lewis was then afforded the opportunity to attend college at the newly opened, close to home, Southside Virginia Community College.  After graduating SVCC in June 1973, he attended George Mason University in Northern Virginia for one year while working with the FBI. He then transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA, where he graduated in 1975 with a B.S. in Accounting.

Jones owned and operated several H&R Block franchises from 1978 until 2005 and also worked in the tobacco industry as a buyer. From 2005 until 2012, he was a full-time real estate broker. He began working with Walmart in Asset Protection in 2012.

Lewis accredits attending SVCC for opening doors for him that would not have been available to him otherwise. This past December, 41 years after graduating from SVCC, he was happy to return to its John H. Daniel Campus as Bookstore Manager for Follett Higher Education.
