We visit with LaDelta Williams, Learning Specialist and Tutorial Services Coordinator at Southside Virginia Community College.

How long have you worked at SVCC?

Currently, a year and 3 months. I previously worked at SVCC from 2009 - 2014. I am also a Navigator 1-15 for new students in business and education.

What other positions have you held at SVCC?

Center Coordinator, LCAKC

What is your favorite vacation spot?

The beach, particularly HIlton Head Island!

Who was your favorite teacher, and what grade or subject did they teach?

My favorite teacher in grade school was Ruth Randolph. She taught me 8th grade English, and she cultivated my love for writing. She also helped me understand the 'why' of grammar rules.

What did you want to do when you grew up?

I wanted to be a teacher. I am grateful that my dream came true!

What was your first job and for what company?

My first job was a cashier at Food Lion.

Of what achievement are you most proud?

Seeing the young people that I have helped along the years grow up into awesome people. It lets me know that those that sowed into my life did not sow in vain.

If you could have lunch with one person, dead or alive, who would it be? What would you eat?

I would want to have lunch with my mother. We would go to Pino's and have a cheese steak hoagie with french fries and sweet tea. We used to do that a lot!

What is your favorite song?

"Rather Be" by Clean Bandit. It is the song that my husband and I sing to each other.
