The Southside Virginia Community College men’s basketball team jumped out to a big lead early on the way to a 102-86 win over Stillwater Christian in its home opener on Saturday afternoon in Lawrenceville. The local team came out firing as KJ Reagans hit histhird trey of the first half at the 12:41 mark to give SVCC a 24-8 lead. A putback by Aaron Logan extended the SVCC lead to 37-10 at the 8:51 mark. A 3-point play by Ricardo Sullivan gave the Panthers a 43-22 lead at the 3:57 mark and the local team took a 50-31 lead to the halftime break. Sullivan converted a 4-point play, one of two in the contest, at the 16:19 mark of the second half to give SVCC a 61-31 lead and the local team cruised down the stretch to the victory. Sullivan led SVCC with 34 points in the game while Jackson scored 25 and Reagans added 20. Dee Alston led Stillwater with 25 points. SVCC will return home on Saturday to face Thomas Nelson CC at 2 p.m.
