SVCC Workforce Partners with American Buildings For Specific Job Training

Southside Virginia Community College is partnering with  American Buildings  Company to offer skill training for specific jobs at the company.  The LaCrosse, Virginia business is interested in having a workforce trained in Computer Aided Drafting. 

SVCC will begin offering a Career Studies Certificate in this discipline in January of 2015 with a total of 19 credit hours needed for successful completion.  Courses include Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Technical Writing, Computer Aided Modeling and Rendering, Team Concepts and Problem Solving and Applied Technical Mathematics. 

These skills will help in preparing applicants for the job of Steel Detailer/BIM Modeler at the local site.  The job entails creation of construction drawings using specialized software, generating drawings and reports, bill of materials for field construction, designing and troubleshooting standardized steel framing conditions and ensuring quality.
