Darcell Terry was born in Philadelphia where she spent most of her childhood. She moved to Palmer Springs during her teen years and graduated from Park View High School. Darcell received her Associate in Applied Science with a major in Administrative Support Technology—Medical Office Specialization from Southside Virginia Community College.
Just prior to graduation, she got a job with the Mecklenburg County Voter Registration Office and continues as Assistant Voting Registrar. Darcell feels that her program of study prepared her to be more proficient in her clerical skills and have a better understanding of administrative duties. Her communication skills with both small and large groups greatly improved throughout her studies and this is beneficial in working with co-workers and with the public.
Darcell did not attend SVCC directly out of high school and was apprehensive about returning as an older student.
"To my surprise it was a very smooth transition and I felt comfortable from the very beginning. Not only were the professors always there to help me to succeed in my education but so were my classmates. The friends that I made during my time at Southside made my experience a good one and I am still in close contact with these individuals today," she said.
