SVCC Tops UA, 117-72

The Southside Virginia Community College men’s basketball team appears to be peaking at just the right time after topping Unique Academy 117-72 in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon in Lawrenceville. The win was the sixth straight for SVCC and improved the Panthers to 13-7 on the season. The local team will open play in the USA National Post-Grad Championships in N. Myrtle Beach, SC on Thursday when they face New York International at 5:45.

SVCC won the national championship in 2014, 2015 and 2016 but were beaten in the quarterfinals last year. “Hopefully we are peaking at just the right time,” said SVCC coach Dennis Smith. “Our offense has been solid all season but I thought the guys really got after it on the defensive end on Saturday. This team has really come a long way this season. We will go and play hard in the national tourney and see what we can do against a talented field.”
