Dear Faculty, Staff, Students, Administrators, Foundation Board Members, Community Leaders, and Stakeholders,
As you know, President Roberts will be retiring effective July 1, 2019 after 5 years of outstanding service to both our College and Southside Virginia. On behalf of the Southside Virginia Community College Board, I would like to express our deep appreciation to Dr. Roberts for his devoted leadership.
Accordingly, the Southside Virginia Community College Board is working with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) to plan the specific details of SVCCs presidential search. VCCS Chancellor, Dr. Glenn DuBois, has provided the Board with a proven and reliable process to facilitate this search.
As one of the first prescribed steps, the Board will identify the most pivotal challenges or opportunities that the College will face over the next three to five years. These considerations will serve as our guide in constructing a responsive strategic framework, and in determining the resultant leadership qualities required of SVCCs next president.
As Chair of the Board, I welcome your participation in this important decision process. You are this institution’s most critical stakeholders; therefore the Board and I must ask you – our faculty, staff, students and Southside Virginia’s leaders – for your deliberate and thoughtful feedback.
The Board and I are asking for your input through a series of questions. As you answer these, please keep in mind that the Board’s mandate is to identify broad challenges and opportunities that are easily defined, communicated, and quantified.
Once we have the benefit of your perspective, we will share the final ideas with Chancellor DuBois. The VCCS Human Resources Department will then craft recruiting materials referencing these challenges and opportunities as prominent expectations for the College’s next president. Your thoughts will have a significant impact on the outcome of this decision; they will shape the initial direction of this extremely important presidential search, which will take several months to accomplish.
Thank you in advance for your participation. Please take a few moments now to complete the questions online, and submit your responses no later than December 11, 2018, at 5:00p.m.
For SVCC to continue its role as a valued regional asset, we depend on your prompt feedback as an engaged stakeholder. While we are losing a much respected leader, we are confident that we will be able to find a worthy successor to lead this great institution.
Betsy Sharrett, Chair
Southside Virginia Community College Board
