Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC), in conjunction with the Southside Educational Technology Consortium (SETC), will offer several college courses for educators. The objectives for these courses will emphasize computer skills development in the content area of teaching, elements of effective lesson plan design, a rich variety of lesson plan websites, technology-rich lessons, and assessments.
Teachers who enroll in these courses will earn recertification points and/or credits. Check with your school division concerning provision of points. Financial assistance may also be provided by local divisions upon request.
Each of these courses will be delivered online using the Blackboard Learning Management System. Assignments are due at least every two weeks unless otherwise noted when the course begins, and you must have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection.
Before signing-up for an online course, please complete the Smartermeasure online readiness assessment. This will give you information in regard to strengths and weaknesses that could impact your success in an online course. The final report will also provide you with resources to assist you with any weaknesses that were noted by the program. Your instructors in your courses at Southside will ask you to provide them with a copy of your report, so make sure that you keep a copy for your records. When you complete the assessment, you will have the option to save a copy or email a copy of the final report. SmarterMeasure Assessment
