MySVCC Help Desk

Contact the MySVCC Help Desk for assistance with the following problems.

  • MySVCC user name and password problems - Your MySVCC log-in gives you access to the Student Information System, Blackboard, Gmail, etc.  
  • Questions or problems with Student Information System

LMS (Blackboard or Canvas) and Student Email Support

Contact Blackboard Support for any questions or concerns related to the Blackboard Learning Management System.  You can also go through Blackboard support if you are experiencing any problems related to your student Gmail account.  Contact Canvas Student Support for questions or concerns related to the Canvas Learning Management System. There are some examples noted below as to why you might use Blackboard/Canvas support, but it is not limited to just these issues.

  • Can't access your course area once you are logged in to MySVCC.
  • You are struggling with using tools in Blackboard such as the discussion board, wikis, blogs, journals, testing, viewing grades, etc.  
  • You are struggling with using tools in Canvas such as discussions, collaborations, inbox, calendar or quizzes.
  • You have been attempting to contact your instructor and have not been able to reach him or her. 
  • You are having problems with opening or viewing content in your Blackboard or Canvas courses.

After Hours Help Desk

After Hours (Monday - Friday between 4:00 PM and 9:00 AM) and Weekend support from the NOVA (Northern Virginia Community College) Help Desk is available for Southside Virginia Community College distance learning students only via the ELI (Extended Learning Institute) Hotline and Live Chat.  This support is available to assist with the following:

  • Password Help
  • Blackboard Availability Problems
  • Email Assistance (Student Gmail Accounts)

IT Help Desk

Contact the IT Help Desk if you need assistance with connecting to the college Wi-Fi while on campus or if you are struggling with using a computer on campus or at one of our centers.

  1. Click the Help Request link. You will be taken to the submission page of: 
  2. Click the drop down box for Quick Pick and select your problem, if found.
  3. Fill out the page and provide us with as much detail as possible. Be sure to include a valid phone number or email address.
  4. Click the "Submit Issue" button.
  5. You will receive Issue #___ was successfully submitted! Please close this window.
  6. You will be contacted by a representative from the college.

Course Instructor

Contact the instructor for your course if you need clarification of course assignment instructions, assistance with understanding content, and when you have questions concerning your grades.  Your instructor is there to support you in the learning process.  Do not hesitate to reach out to them when you have questions and need help.  If you are taking an online course and are struggling with understanding the organization of the course content or understanding the materials in the course, reach out to your instructor.  They are there to help you.

Comprehensive Learning Center

The Comprehensive Learning Centers located on both of our campuses in Alberta and Keysville, offer professional tutors and student assistants who have been trained to help you with your academic needs.  They offer one-on-one and group tutoring, as well as walk-in assistance.  They also offer online tutoring through a Blackboard Collaborate online meeting room if transportation is an issue.
