The Frank Ruff Jr. Scholarship Fund

The family of Frank Ruff Jr. has established a scholarship in his memory to continue his legacy of helping people of Southside Virginia better their lives with opportunities of higher education and workforce development.

Frank Ruff’s name and southside Virginia go hand-in-hand.  Through his involvement with the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, Senator Ruff was an advocate for education and training for community colleges in rural Virginia for many years.  Thousands of students have earned credentials leading to life changing careers.

As a Senator, he enthusiastically worked for his constituents and encouraged creativity through partnerships which impacted economic success throughout Southside Virginia.

Frank was elected to serve in the Virginia Senate in 2000. Prior to his tenure in the Virginia Senate, he served in the Virginia House of Delegates. He was a founding member of GO Virginia, Chairman of the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, and Chairman of the Center for Rural Virginia, renamed in his honor.

The Frank Ruff Jr. Scholarship Fund will be used to assist recipients with tuition, books and/or mandatory program supplies needed to pursue credentials that will lead to employment in thriving careers.  

Recipients of the scholarship are required to be enrolled at Southside Virginia Community College and from Senator Ruff's counties he served, consisting of the following:  Charlotte, Halifax, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward.
