Southside Virginia Community College President Highlights Milestones, Partnerships, and Community Impact

Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) President Dr. Quentin R. Johnson recently delivered an inspiring update on the college’s programs and progress at the Emporia Rotary Club meeting, highlighting the continued success and growth of SVCC through strategic partnerships and community support.

In his remarks, Dr. Johnson emphasized the strength of SVCC’s academic offerings, including the innovative Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE) and Critical Environment programs—both part of the college’s ongoing partnership with Microsoft. He praised the remarkable brainpower of SVCC’s students, faculty, and staff, underscoring the exceptional quality of education being delivered across campuses.

Dr. Johnson proudly announced that SVCC has graduated more than 50,000 students, including students’ earning associate degrees as well as workforce credentials, since its founding in 1970, with over 90% of graduates choosing to remain in the region—fueling local communities and economies.

He extended a heartfelt thank-you to Greensville County Public Schools for their steadfast partnership in developing robust dual enrollment programs. “These opportunities give our students a reason to stay, learn, and contribute locally,” Dr. Johnson noted.

Dr. Johnson also expressed sincere gratitude to the Greensville Rotary Club for their continued support of SVCC and its mission to serve the region through education and workforce development.

In a special moment of gratitude, Dr. Johnson recognized Mr. Robert C. “Bobby” Wrenn for his lasting impact on the college. A former SVCC student, past local board chair, and VCCS state board chair, Mr. Wrenn played a critical role in helping SVCC secure its first building. Dr. Johnson presented Mr. Wrenn with a commemorative gift as a symbol of appreciation for his unwavering support of SVCC and its students throughout the years.

“As we look to the future, we remain committed to empowering our students, supporting our faculty and staff, and growing our impact through community and industry partnerships,” Dr. Johnson said.
