SVCC Announces the Hiring of New Chief of Police to Strengthen Campus Security

Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chief Alefunzo Uzzle as the new Chief of Police, effective January 10, 2025. With a strong background in law enforcement and a dedication to public safety, Chief Uzzle will lead efforts to enhance security measures and ensure a safe environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

Uzzle brings over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and security, including service in the United States Navy, most recently serving as a Police Officer Specialist at the College of William and Mary. In this role, he successfully implemented safety initiatives, improved emergency response protocols, and strengthened community relations. Uzzle holds a Criminal Justice degree from Ashworth College.

As Chief of Police, Uzzle will oversee campus security operations, emergency preparedness, and crime prevention strategies. The appointment underscores SVCC’s commitment to maintaining a secure learning and working environment for all.

“We are excited to welcome Chief Uzzle to our team,” said Chad Wollenberg, Associate Vice President of Finance and Administration. “He brings a wealth of experience and leadership in higher education law enforcement that will be instrumental in advancing our security efforts and fostering a safe campus community.”

Uzzle expressed enthusiasm for the new role at his recent Swearing-In Ceremony, stating, “I promise to have a department that has the core values of community, compassion, courage and commitment!" Uzzle concluded his welcome speech, "... I have that Panther Pride--Catch It!"

Southside Virginia Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
