Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) proudly highlights one of its standout students, May Levonian majoring in Business Management with Agribusiness, who is gaining invaluable hands-on experience as a Kiln Technician Intern at Ontario Hardwoods in Keysville, Virginia.
As part of her internship, May is involved in every step of the wood drying process, including sampling lumber, tracking moisture content, and monitoring the drying of Red Oak, Pine, Poplar, and other wood varieties. This immersive experience provides real-world application of the skills she's developing through her coursework.
May is on track to graduate on May 10, 2025. Following her graduation, she plans to transition into a full-time role at Ontario Hardwoods turning her internship into a career opportunity.
SVCC extends its gratitude to Clarke Hogan and the Ontario Hardwoods team for their continued support of student internships and workforce development. Special thanks also go to Dr. Dixie Dalton, SVCC instructor, for her guidance and dedication to student success.
“Internships like May’s are a vital part of our mission to bridge classroom learning with meaningful workplace experiences,” said SVCC’s President, Dr. Quentin R. Johnson.
