SVCC Nursing Graduate Encourages Future Students to Take Advantage of Support Services and Enroll Today

As Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) prepares for another class of outstanding graduates, one recent Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) alumna from the Class of 2024 is sharing her success story to encourage others to start their nursing journey and take full advantage of SVCC’s student services.

Dulce Ruby G. Trejo-Misner, a Brodnax, Virginia resident is currently employed by VCU Health Community Memorial Healthcenter as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. She chose SVCC because it was close to home and, as a former dual enrollment student, she found the application process to be simple and accessible. "It was very easy to get information about the nursing program and get my questions answered," she said. "I always felt supported and never felt alone throughout my time at SVCC."

Throughout her academic journey, she utilized many of the college’s support services, including Student Services, Financial Aid, the SVCC Scholarship Foundation—where she received the Verghese Scholarship—and participated in student clubs and committees. She credits these resources with enhancing her college experience and strongly recommends that incoming students make use of them as well. "They truly made the experience for me," she emphasized.

Reflecting on her time at SVCC, she highlights how important student life was in balancing the demands of the nursing program. "After a tough day of classes, getting involved in student activities was so relieving and fun," she shared. "It reminded me that I was part of a supportive community."

When asked if she would recommend SVCC’s nursing program to others, her answer was a resounding "Absolutely!" She praised the accessible support network, responsive faculty, and the sense of community that helped her succeed.

SVCC’s Fall classes begin August 25, and Summer classes start May 19. Students interested in a rewarding nursing career are encouraged to apply now and take full advantage of SVCC’s outstanding academic programs and student resources.
