SVCC Welcomes Officer Sydney Nichols as First Police Officer For The College
On November 21, 2025, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) marked a historic milestone at its John H. Daniel Campus with the swearing-in of Officer Sydney Nichols, the first police officer to serve at this location. Mrs. Shannon Feinman, Vice President of Finance and Administration, welcomed guests and recognized the importance of the moment for both the college and the Charlotte County community, which SVCC has proudly served since 1970.
Mrs. Feinman noted that the addition of Officer Nichols follows the successful onboarding of Chief of Police Alefunzo Uzzle last year. “We have already seen Officer Nichols’ professionalism, her proactive relationship-building skills, and her commitment to connecting with students, faculty, staff, and community members,” Feinman shared.
The Honorable Annette Clowdis of Charlotte County presided over the oath of office, officially swearing in Officer Nichols and sealing a historic achievement for SVCC.
Feinman expressed gratitude to Nichols for her dedication to protecting and serving the campus community. “We look forward to the positive impact she will make each and every day as we continue strengthening campus safety,” she said.
SVCC President Dr. Quentin R. Johnson emphasized the lasting significance of the event by announcing that a recording of the ceremony will be preserved in SVCC’s time capsule to be opened 100 years from now, during the college’s 155th anniversary celebration. “Officer Nichols, we are honored to have you,” he said, extending appreciation to Mrs. Feinman and Mr. Chad Wollenberg, Associate Vice President of Finance and Administration, for their leadership and to Chief Uzzle for selecting Officer Nichols to join the SVCC team.
Chief Uzzle presented Officer Nichols with her badge, noting the department’s dedication to the pillars of community, compassion, courage, and commitment.
“I’m truly honored to serve as the first police officer at Southside Virginia Community College,” Officer Nichols shared. “This opportunity is a major milestone for both my career and for the continued growth of campus safety at SVCC. I am deeply grateful to Chief Uzzle for believing in me and for his steady leadership and support. Our department’s core values guide everything we do, and I look forward to carrying those values as I serve our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. I’m excited to help build a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for everyone at SVCC.”
SVCC remains committed to enhancing safety measures across all campuses to protect students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The addition of Officer Nichols represents another important step in strengthening security, fostering trust, and ensuring a secure learning environment where every member of the SVCC community can thrive.
